M. Eleanor Patton

September 27, 1931 — January 7, 2025

M. (Margery) Eleanor Patton, 93, of Meadville passed away on Tuesday January 7, 2025 at Wesbury United Methodist Community. Eleanor was born in Hartstown, PA on September 27, 1931 to Joseph H. Patton and Marguerite Gelvin Patton.

She was a graduate of Pymatuning Joint School in Jamestown, PA class of 1949. She was accepted to Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1952.

After graduating Eleanor joined the staff of Meadville City Hospital, now Meadville Medical Center working in obstetrics and earning the credentials of RNC (Registered Nurse Certified) and retiring as head nurse of Maternity in 1995.

She joined the GFWC Meadville Woman’s Club in 1995 and was made an Honorary Member in 2021. Eleanor was President of the club from 2000-2002. Her mission statement was, Laughter is the best medicine. At the local level she held offices of Vice President, Secretary, and College Liaison for the Mary Spaulding RN Scholarships. GFWC Pennsylvania Northwestern District level, she served as a NW District Director and chairman and several committees. She was a regular attendee at GFWC PA Conventions and Leadership Conferences, and NW District Meetings until health issues.

Eleanor held numerous positions at the VFW Ladies Auxiliary including President. She was on numerous other boards and organizations. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Some of her happiest times were spent laughing and entertaining friends and family as Mrs. Claus and her own made- up character of Nancy Nurse. Everyone enjoyed her sense of humor and storytelling. Her zest for life was in everything she did.

She loved watching and feeding her backyard birds.

She is survived by a daughter Lori Bahurinsky (David) of Meadville and a brother Thomas Patton (Shirley) of Jamestown, PA.  Five grandchildren Erin Mackiewicz (Jeff) of Venango, PA., Brian Bahurinsky (Brittany) of McMurry, PA., Marley Thomas of Meadville, Hallie Ribb of Port St. Lucie, FL and Kyle Ribb of Meadville. Five great grandchildren Bristol Mackiewicz, Emma and Ava Bahurinsky, Adilyn Ribb and Joseph Sposa III. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and her family loved her very much.

Eleanor was preceded in death by a daughter Margi (Gig) Ribb, a son Mark Ribb and a brother Robert Patton.

She was a great lady and will be remembered for her laugh, sense of humor and the many times she had us all in Stitches laughing at her antics.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 16 at Hathaway Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA from 12:00 to 1:00pm and a service at 1:00pm.           A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.
