Margaret Jindra

August 14, 1937 — July 5, 2023

Margaret “Peggy” (Damico) Jindra, age 85, passed away on Wednesday July 5, 2023 at Meadville Medical Center after a sudden illness.  She was born on August 14, 1937 in Meadville, PA a daughter of Bernice Margaret (Kinney) and Joseph Peter Damico.  She married Dwayne “Duke” Edward Jindra on April 1, 1958 when they eloped to Jamestown, NY on April Fool’s Day and were married for 53 years.  He preceded her in death on November 9, 2011.  She spent the last 5 wonderful years of her life with her life partner, Joseph “Papa Joe” Thomas.

Peggy graduated from Meadville High School in 1957.  She was heavily involved in chorus and went to Districts.  Singing and music was very important to her and what brought her and Dwayne together.

In her younger years, Peggy worked at the Crawford Store, McDonalds, Arthur Treacher’s and Juniper Village as the activities director.  She owned and operated “Italian Cousins” first with her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Pat Moffit and later with her husband, Dwayne.  She also worked at St. Brigid’s Rectory.

She was  very involved in the Catholic Church and religion.  She helped and guided so many people through her devout love of her beliefs.  She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, the Franciscan Order and was a Eucharistic Minister.  She enjoyed working in her yard, reading, cooking, doing crafts and in her later years, traveling with her partner, Joe.  She was particularly proud to have traveled to Medugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Peggy is survived by her 3 daughters, Diane Bernard and her husband, Anthony of Meadville, PA, Rose Rockafellow of Carbondale, CO and Julie Edmiston of Meadville, PA; her son, Joseph P. Jindra and his wife, Jennifer of Erie, PA and her honorary daughter, Christie Antoun and her husband, Greg of Meadville, PA; 8 grandchildren, Dominic Rockafellow, Nathan Rockafellow both of Carbondale, CO, Brad Minman and his wife, Stephanie of Valencia, PA, Bryan Minman and his wife, Kate of Saegertown, PA, Elizabeth Shea and her husband, Robert of Boston, MA, Katherine St. Cyr and her husband, Nicholas of Phillipston, MA, Shane Tufts of Erie, PA and Kaitlin Chimera and her husband, Nick of Erie, PA; honorary grandchild, Justin Minman and his wife, Molly of Meadville, PA; 5 great-grandchildren, Ian and Emily Minman, Blake and Landon Minman and Georgia Shea; honorary great-grandchildren,  Brody and Grant Minman; her sister, Rosemarie Burchard and her husband, James of Guys Mills, PA; her sister-in-law, Eileen Damico of FL; her brother-in-law, Patrick Moffit of Meadville, PA and many nieces and nephews.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Edgar Damico; sisters, Donna Hyde(Harold), Dolores Aubel (Samuel), Josephine Karas (Wes), Madeline Gisewhite (Earl), Dorothy Mauk (Robert), Mary Grace Hulbert and Joyce Moffitt; grandson, Brandon Tufts and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday July 10, 2023 at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, PA from 9:30-11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial taking place at 11:00 am with Father Jeff Lucas officiating.  Peggy will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Brigid Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 220 E. 42nd St., New York, NY 10017.
