Marshall Mumford

Marshall W. Mumford, 87, of Marsh Dr., Conneaut Lake, passed away at the home of his son and daughter-in-law on Hank Street in Meadville on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. He was born September 25, 1925, in Greenwood Township, a son of William P. Mumford and Ruby Belle Hazen Mumford. Marshall married Shirley D. Bradway on April 21, 1947; and she survives. Marshall worked as a spinner/janitor for 43 years at the Viscose which became Avtex and retired when they closed. He was in the US Navy from 1943 - 1946 and was a 1st Class Seaman. He attended Reash United Brethren in Christ Church. He enjoyed Thursday morning breakfasts with the other retirees from Avtex. He spent countless hours repairing and constructing bicycles. He enjoyed hunting with his sons. He loved his family, friends and his dog, Lady. For approximately 50 years Marshall donated his time and efforts as President and maintaining Greenwood Memorial Cemetery. He was a self-taught harmonica player, playing up until his passing. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Mumford of Conneaut Lake; a daughter Darlene Urey of Cochranton, five sons Larry Mumford and his wife Pansy of Big Rock, TN; Ronald Mumford and his wife Linda of Charleston, WV; Charles Mumford and his wife Kathy of Atlantic; Dennis Mumford and his wife Anne of Meadville; David Mumford of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Tammy Heflin, Jennifer Sears, Ronald Kiser, Robbie Mumford, Marsha Mumford, Adam Mumford, Joseph Mumford, and Corey Urey; 3 step-grandchildren Brian McBride, Autumn Woodrow-Fife, and Chad Woodrow; six great-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren; two sisters Dorothy Pedrick of Salisbury, MD; Donna "Jeanie" Mumford of Greenville; three brothers Victor Mumford and his wife Nancy of Meadville; Donald Mumford of Forestville, NY; Francis Mumford of Saegertown. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Raymond and Kenny Mumford; three sisters Lila Morian, Mildred Russell, and Norma Mumford; one grandchild Stacey Mumford, and a half-sister Adabelle Sackett. Calling hours will be Friday from 3pm to 6pm at Hatheway -Tedesco Funeral Home, 614 Baldwin Street and Saturday from 10am to 11am, with a funeral service to follow at 11am officiated by Pastor Randy Keeling of Reash Community Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, 2841 Mercer Pike, Cochranton, PA 16314.
