Mary Anne Shay, 72, of Conneaut Lake, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 after a brief period of declining health.

Mary Anne was born in East Brady on Dec. 1, 1948, to Ronald and Rita (Smith) Seybert.  She graduated from East Brady High school where she was homecoming queen and voted most likely to succeed.  Following graduation, she married Morris (Beanie) Shay, who survives at home.  Mary Anne was a stay at home mother during her children’s early years.  She began working at Conneaut Cellars winery while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special education from Edinboro University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.  Upon graduation, she was hired at Conneaut Lake Elementary where she taught 3 rd and 4 th grade.

She attended Our Lady Queen of the America’s Catholic Church, in Conneaut Lake.  She served as Eucharistic minister, was a member of the Alter Rosary Society, Why Catholic group, and taught preschool religious education classes for many years.

Mary Anne enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, music, reading, cooking, baking, sewing, gardening and writing poetry.  She would write poems for significant events throughout her life, won contests for her poetry and was a published poet.

Mary Anne is survived by her husband.  She is also survived by her mother Rita (Smith) Seybert of East Brady; her daughter, Jennifer (Parke) Wentling, of Greenville; her son, Alan (Alyssa) Shay, of Liverpool, PA; cherished grandchildren Ada and Iris Wentling and Alecz and Alivia Shay.

Mary Anne was the oldest of fifteen children and found great joy in their company.  She is survived by her eight sisters; Kitty (Ted) Miller, Cowansville; Susan Schneider, of Venetia; Martha (John) Wolff, Tennessee; Annie (John) Sallade, Wyomissing; Rita (Bill) Davis, Austin, TX; Jane DiGiammarino, Rimersburg; Amy (John) Herman, Titusville; and Tricia (Devin) Winklosky, Gibsonia; six brothers; Andrew (Karen) Seybert, East Brady; Tom (Christine) Seybert, Dallas, PA; Joseph Seybert, of WV; John (Mary Anne) Seybert, Cowansville; Ron (Jill) Seybert, State College; Jim (Kathy) Seybert, of NC.

She also survived by brother in law Bob(Barb) Shay, Meadville; and Danny (Helen) Shay, Meadville; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Anne was preceded in death by her father, father in law, James A. Shay, mother in law, Arline J. Shay, sister in law, Janet Logston; and an infant niece.

Calling hours will be Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church, 155 S. 9 th St. Conneaut Lake, PA 16316, from 10:00AM until the Noon Mass of Christian Burial.  The Noon Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Father David Carter followed by a graveside service.  Please sign the online guestbook at hatheway-tedesco.com.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Dickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 130 N.
