Mary Barnes, age 94, of Meadville, PA passed away on May 21, 2021. She was born on August 28, 1926 in Conneautville, PA to the late Charles and Emma (Tkach) Mehalko. She married Raymond W. Smith in May of 1947. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1955. She then married George M. Barnes.
Mary was a 1944 graduate of Cambridge Springs, PA. She was employed at Talon for 38 years, where she worked as an assembler and 16 different jobs. She was the Secretary Treasurer for the local 2213 Talon Union. She also worked in the office for CATA for 10 years and worked as a center aid for Active Aging for 18 years until her retirement.
Mary was a member of Park Congregational Church. She was a member of the choir. She was also a former member of the Vets Club. She was an excellent painter and enjoyed painting pictures at Active Aging.
She is survived by one daughter, Denise Faber of Apollo Beach, FL and one son, Kenneth R. Smith and his wife, Lauren of Medina, OH; one step-daughter, Jean Huson of Meadville, PA and one step son, George Barnes and his wife, Sue of Saegertown, PA; grandchildren, Kimberly Feckley of Avon Park, OH, Carrie Kerr of Apollo Beach, FL, James Kerr of Apollo Beach, FL, Erica Smith of Meadville, PA, Eric Smith and his fiancé, Katie Winters of Meadville, PA and Katrina Smith of Meadville, PA and step grandchildren, Holly Jordan and her husband, Chris of Meadville, PA, Linda Dodds of Mount Vernon, OH, Tammy Childers of Saegertown, PA, Crissy Kaspick of Saegertown, PA, Tom Huson of Saegertown, PA, Donnie Huson of Roanoke,VA, Rick Barnes of Columbus, OH, Alan Barnes of Dallas, TX, Charles Kahler of Dallas, TX, Jimmy Kahler of Meadville, PA, Marty Kahler of Erie,PA, Turk Kahler of Saegertown, PA and Wynne Shields of Cambridge Springs, PA ; great grandchildren, Brayden Feckley, Melina Cornell, Kylie Williams, and Alexandria Winters; one sister, Evelyn Hoppenstand of Apollo Beach, FL; one brother, John Mehalko and his wife, Lisa of Albion, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George M. Barnes; two sons, Byron Smith and Eric R. Smith; three brothers, George, Charles, and Vincent Mehalko, her sister-in-law, Jean Mehalko, step daughter, Marcia Kahler, sons-in-law, Tom Huson and Jerry Faber; brother-in-law, David Hoppenstand; grandson, Keith Smith and step granddaughter, Brenda Kahler.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday May 23, 2021 from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm at Park Congregational Church 1040 Washington St., Meadville, PA 16335. Service will take place at 2:00 pm at the church with Pastor David Bault officiating. Interment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Monday May 24, 2021 at 12:00 pm.
