Matie J Rich

Matie J. Rich, 79, of Meadville passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at her residence. She was born December 11, 1934, in Meadville, PA, the daughter of the late Ralph Knickerbocker and Myrtle (Higley) Knickerbocker. She married Carmen J. Rich on December 20, 1969. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1980. Matie worked as a cook and waitress at the Lamplighter Room in Meadville and the Taylor Hose Club. She was also owner of Matie Jean's Party Shop. Matie was a member of the Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department Station 27, the ICC, and American Legion Post 111. She was an avid lover of Elvis, and enjoyed flowers and gardening. Matie is survived by two daughters; Voylie (Dolly) Young of Meadville, Betty Jean Rich and significant other Howard Walters of Euclid, Ohio and three sons; William Onspaugh of Meadville, Richard Rich and his significant other Tanya Ball of Meadville and Thomas Rich of Linesville; six grandchildren; Jeff, Joe, Jon, Victoria, Brittany and Jeremiah; nine great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister Harriett (Betty) Hansen of Meadville and a brother Ralph Knickerbocker of Saegertown. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers; Myrle Knickerbocker, Bill Knickerbocker and Bob Knickerbocker and a brother-in-law Martin Hansen. Services will be held Sunday at 2:00 PM at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville, PA, with Rev. Temple Jarrell officiating. A dinner will follow at Vernon Twp. Vol. Fire Dept. Station 27. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Vernon Twp. Vol. Fire Dept. Station 27, 18208 Cussewago Rd., Meadville, PA 16335.
