Melvin R. Powell Jr.

Melvin R. Powell Jr. age 69 of Meadville, PA passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Meadville Medical Center. He was born on December 11, 1945 in Meadville, PA the son of the late Melvin R. Powell Sr. and Faye Seley Powell. He married Ellen Baker on March 30, 1967. She survives. Melvin was a truck driver for Woods Gravel Company and for Faust Gravel. He was an avid race car fan and enjoyed dirt track racing. His greatest love was watching his son Bruce, in race car #35, race. He also helped his son with his race car. Melvin was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was well known by his grandchildren as "Papa Mrp". He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ellen Powell of Meadville, PA, a daughter; Lonna Robinson and her husband, Jason of Guys Mills, PA, two sons; Bruce Powell and his wife, Tammy of Cochranton, PA and Jason Powell and his wife Chrissy of Meadville, PA, eight grandchildren; Brandon Kegley and his fiancé Lindsey Cowden, Tyler Powell, Joel Robinson, Erica Robinson, Jordan Powell, Dakota Powell, Marissa Powell and Tasha Evans, a great granddaughter: Rorie Simons, six sisters: Evelyn Horne of Atlantic, PA, Helen Sullivan of Townville, PA, Joyce Powell of Meadville, PA, Sharon Baily and her husband Don of Conneaut Lake, PA, Linda Riorden and her husband Bob of Meadville, PA, Margaret Baker and her husband Ron of Saegertown, PA , three brothers; Don Powell and his wife Rose of Saegertown, PA, Robert Powell and his wife Patty of Meadville, PA and Richard Powell and his wife Jan of Texas. He is further survived by nieces and nephews and several brother-in-laws and sister-in- laws. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Stanley. Family and friends may call on Friday, May 1, 2015 from 4 to 7 PM at the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA 16335 All are welcome to attend the funeral service at 7 PM on Friday at the funeral home with the Rev.
