Merle "Gene" Schreffler

Merle “Gene” E. Schreffler, age 87, of Meadville, PA passed away at his home on September 6, 2022.  He was born on March 30, 1935 in Meadville, PA to the late Merl and Rachel (Miller) Schreffler.  He married Fae Abbott on May 7, 1956.  She preceded him in death on May 29, 2008.

Gene worked as a heavy equipment operator with the Operator Engineers Local #66 Union.  He was a lifetime member of Station #27 and the Meadville Club.  He spent many years auctioning and was very good at it.   He loved ice fishing and working on cars.  He also enjoyed taking home videos of the family.  Many may remember him for his “hoopie car” building days.

Gene is survived by three sons, Dean Schreffler and his wife, Chris of Meadville, PA, Randy Schreffler of Meadville, PA and Gibb Schreffler and his significant other, Michelle Jackson of Cochranton, PA and three daughters, Karen Frabotta of Meadville, PA, Sharon Schrantz of Fredonia, NY and Bridget Sheasley and her husband, Gary of Meadville, PA; 11 grandchildren and several great- grandchildren; his sister, Kay Shearer of Madison, OH and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Kevin K. Schreffler; his son-in-law, David Schrantz; two sisters, Delores Taylor and Thelma Wickham; two grandchildren, Elaina Schreffler and Brandon Schreffler and two great grandsons.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday September 12, 2022 from 4-6 pm at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335.  Funeral service will take place at 6:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Shearer officiating.   Gene will be laid to rest next to his wife at Anderson Cemetery.
