Merle Mont Thurber

January 8, 1939 — July 18, 2016

            Merle Mont Thurber, age 77 of Hartstown, PA passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Marquette Hospice House, Meadville, PA.             He was born January 8, 1939 in Jamestown, PA the son of the late George Thurber and Winifred Kohler Thurber.  He married Doris J. “Sis” Williams on July 8, 1960.             He graduated from Jamestown High School in l957.  He had been employed as a truck driver with Barris Trucking in West Middlesex, PA having retired two years ago. He was a veteran of the United States Marines Corp. Merle was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and NASCAR fan. He was devoted to his grandchildren and loved attending their sporting events.             Merle is survived by his wife of 56 years, Doris J. “Sis” Thurber of Hartstown, PA, two sons: Thomas Thurber and his wife Robin of Conneaut Lake, PA and Todd Thurber and his wife Margaret Ann of Andover, Ohio, four grandchildren: Travis Thurber, Tyson Thurber, Mac Thurber and Chase Thurber, two brothers: Tom Thurber and his wife Kay of Jamestown, PA and Si Thurber and his wife RoseMarie of Greenville, PA, special friends: Garald and Phyllis Stockton, a special sister-in-law: Carol Williams and his beloved dog, Zeus. The family extends a very special Thank You to all of the girls who took such great care of Merle while he was at the Marquette Hospice House.             In addition to his parents, Merle was preceded in death by two brothers; Gordon and George Jr. and by two sisters: Mary Ellen and Jeannie.             Memorial contributions can be made to the Marquette Hospice House, 13465 North Wayland Road, Meadville, PA 16335 or the Crawford County Humane Society 904 Park Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335.
