Michael Lemke

November 18, 1950 — February 15, 2022

Michael W. Lemke, 71, of Cambridge Springs, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, February 13, 2022. Born November 18, 1950 to Miklos and Irene Lemke, Michael was a first generation immigrant from Hungary after his family escaped Soviet territory. He attended school in Buffalo, NY and after graduating high school was proud to join the Marine Corps. He married Sherry (Westbrook) Lemke in 1979. They raised two daughters together.

Despite tragically losing his legs after 17 years in the Marine Corps, he refused to give up. He was fiercely independent, stubborn, strong, and admirably perseverant. He continued to do a full work out every single day until about a year ago and even rode a motorcycle for many years. He was a dedicated volunteer at Crawford County Care Center for years and brightened the residents’ days. He learned piano so he could lead worship there for them on Sundays. He was a shining example of God’s love as he had a big heart for those in need. He helped many people over the years, probably more than we know about. Above all, he deeply loved God and his family. He had many trials he dealt with in his life, but he always let us know how much he loved us.

He will be lovingly remembered by his Mother, Irene Lemke; daughters, Rachael Lemke and Teresa Eiler (Val); sisters, Irene Smith (Stan) and Mary Barillari (Lon);  four grandchildren, Haley (Eiler) Humphries (Luke), Kailynn  Eiler, Wallie Eiler, and Brynlee Eiler;  two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, former spouse and lifelong friend, Sherry Lemke and friends he considered family.
