Muriel J. Stein

Muriel Jean (Phillips) Stein, age 92, of Meadville, a lifelong resident of Dutch Hill passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Rolling Fields Nursing Home. She was born June 1, 1922 in Wesleyville, PA the daughter of the late Harry E. and Ona M. Blacker Phillips. She married Howard T. Stein on June 29, 1940. He preceded her in death on September 11, 2011. Muriel attended the Erie Area Schools. She had been employed at Talon Inc., and had also served as one of the past Union Township Tax Auditors for many years. She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ, and the Women's Guild at the church. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and crafts, playing bingo and outdoor activities and animals. She loved attending horse shows. She is survived by two daughters; Donna Brecht of Meadville, PA and Ona Mahoney and her husband, Jack of Meadville, PA; two sons, Raymond Stein and his wife, Carol of Meadville, PA and Danny Stein and his wife Roseanna of Meadville, PA; six grandchildren, Lurae Kobow and her husband Mark, Randy Stein and his wife Becky, Rodney Brecht, Leslie Anderson and her husband Charlie, Shannon Mahoney and Matthew Mahoney; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Nellie Callahan of Conneaut Lake, PA; a brother, Carl Phillips and his wife Jeanne, of Watsontown, PA. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Muriel was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth O'Connell, Irene Crawford, Ona King and Florence Young and four brothers, James Crawford, Lyle Phillips, Wilbur Phillips and David King Sr. Family and friends may call from noon to 2 PM on Saturday at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA The funeral follows at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Huber Cemetery.
