Paul Lasher

January 6, 1932 — August 30, 2018

Paul I. Lasher, 86, of Erie Street, Venango, PA passed away on August 30, 2018 at the Butler Veterans Affairs Community Living Center following a short illness. Paul was born January 6, 1932 in Venango, PA the son of Harry and Rhea Weamer Lasher.  He married Verda Louise Anthony on August 17, 1956. She lovingly nicknamed him, P.I. early in their marriage.  They were married for 61 years before she preceded him in death on June 4, 2017. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces, serving in the National Guard from 1950-1952, Army from 1953 – 1956 and served in the Air Force from 1957 until his retirement in 1972. His military service was a subject of much pride for him and loved to tell stories to everyone. His service stationed him and Verda across the world and the States, including stations in Germany, Austria, Iceland, Turkey, Okinawa, Guam, Oklahoma, New Hampshire, and Missouri. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He subsequently worked as a security guard for 23 years in the Meadville area following his service time. He was a life member Venango VFW Post 169, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Air Force Sergeants Association and Venango Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed working crosswords, playing bingo and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. His smile and joking way will be missed by so many. Survivors include a daughter, Sherrie Offi and her husband Martin of Cranberry Township, PA, three grandchildren: Travis Offi of Cochranton, Cassandra Jaussen and her husband Dan of Greenville, and Zachary Offi of Cranberry Township, PA, two sisters: Margaret Barrett of Edinboro, Hazel Brown of Cambridge Springs, and a brother Frank Lasher of Alabama and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ward Lasher and a sister, Mary Ellen Tau. The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and staff at Butler VA Community Living Center for their excellent care and friendships the last 8 months of his life. The family requests memorials be made to the Disabled American Veterans Association, Family and friends are welcome to call on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 1PM to 2 PM at the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA 16335. The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in the Venango Cemetery at a later date.
