Paul R. Schwab

Paul R. Schwab, age 95, of the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, PA passed away on Wednesday, November12, 2014, at the home in Erie, PA. Paul was born January 16, 1919 in Meadville, PA, the son of the late Leon and Helen L. Mead Schwab. He married Leona Roha on October 2, 1948. She survives. He was a 1938 graduate of Meadville High School. He worked as an engineer with the Erie Railroad (Erie-Lackawanna then Con-Rail) from 1942 until retiring in 1979. He had worked as a Fireman, first. He served in the United States Coast Guard, earning the Rank of Gunner's Mate, Second Class. He received the American Area Campaign Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Area Campaign Medal, with One Bronze Star. He was a member of the VFW Post # 2006 in Meadville, PA. Paul loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed gardening. He especially loved going to the hunting camp at Forest County. He cared for his family very much. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Leona R. Schwab of the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, PA, three daughters; Christine Malliard and her husband Danny of Meadville, PA, Charlotte Polach and her husband Stanley of Corry, PA and Paula Polach and her late husband Casimir of Saegertown, PA, ten grandchildren; Jayson Hopkins, Rickie Hopkins, Autumn Homerski, Paul Polach, Megan Proper, Emiley White, Abigail Polach, Tracey Polach, Lorie Kirdahy and Steve Polach and 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson. He is further survived by nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joseph Schwab and Clarence Schwab and a son-in-law, Casimir Polach. There will be no calling hours and services will be private. Burial will be in the Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Township. Memorial contributions can be made to one's choice.
