Paul Van Slyke

December 5, 1945 — March 29, 2020

Paul H. Van Slyke, age 74, of Meadville, passed away peacefully at his residence in the company of his wife on Sunday, March 29, 2020, following an extended illness.
Paul was born in Guys Mills on December 5, 1945, a son of the late Mary Van Slyke and Alvin Van Slyke.
On June 16, 1990, Paul married Bernadette (Beanie) Wilson; she survives. When they met they became friends instantly and then married. From that day forward it was unusual to see one without the other, with the exception of work. They were soul mates and close friends and remained that way until his death.Following his graduation from Randolph High School, Paul began to work at various jobs, including mechanical work at many auto shops, driving over the road tractor trailer for years and then owning his own tractor trailer and traveling the states. He then sold his trailer and went to work for Miller’s Garage and in 2008 Paul began enjoying retirement while still keeping his hand in working with Wilkinson’s Excavating.Paul will be remembered for his great knowledge of the states. He could tell you directions to most anywhere in the U.S. because he traveled extensively for work. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles of which he had owned many but mainly his Harley Davidson. He enjoyed NASCAR and camping with his friends. But most of all he enjoyed his family and spending time with them. He was a member of Saegertown American Legion Post 205, West Mead 2 – Station 29, Meadville Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department – Station 27.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Beanie of 30 years; his two sons: Paul Van Slyke and his wife, Jill of Henry’s Bend, PA and Howard Van Slyke and his wife, Dee of Oil City, PA and he also had a very close relationship with his stepdaughter: Tanya Hornstrom, her husband, Adrian, his step-granddaughter, Kayla of Pasadena, MD and his sister, Lucy Courson of Meadville, several grandchildren; great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ernest Courson.

Per Paul’s wishes there will be no calling hours. A private service will be conducted at the convenience of the family at a later date.
