Peter Holmes Sullivan was always the one to call in a crisis. He was unflappable and he knew a little something about everything. Whether you needed help with your math homework, you'd broken your arm at school, you required an honest opinion, or you wanted to renovate your house from the studs, Peter was your man. He was a voracious reader, loved Jon Stewart and the trappings of YouTube, and listened to almost all the programs NPR broadcast. He could take apart and put back together just about anything, humming off-key and talking to himself as he went. He had an acidic sense of humor and an artist's eye. He was an unlikely cheerleader and sneaky doer of good deeds. He was also a realist who insisted on seeing the glass as half empty in order to be prepared for the worst. He was fiercely independent and self-sufficient. He would think this obituary was somewhat frivolous, wryly reminding its readers that the only things in life that are certain are death and taxes. And then he would encourage us to have a couple fingers of Jameson and get on with it. Born March 30, 1947, Peter died of natural causes on October 17, 2015 at the age of 68 at his home in Meadville, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Holmes Sullivan and Vera Bench Sullivan. He is survived by his siblings, Daniel Sullivan and Elizabeth Falk; his son, Ian Sullivan; his daughter and son-in-law, Bayh Sullivan and Matthew Pekar; and his life partner and mother of his children, Patricia Hargest. According to Peter's wishes, there will not be a service.
