Philip T. Cory

February 17, 1933 — September 18, 2017

            Philip T. “Tom” Cory, age 84, of Meadville, PA went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 18, 2017 at his residence with family by his side.              He was born February 17, 1933 in New Brighton, PA the son of the late Philip A. Cory and Jessie Higley Cory.  He married the mother of his three children, Rose Marie Hagen.  She preceded him in death on April 11, 2017.  He had married JoAnn Marie Troglione on May 19, 1990 and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2013.             He graduated from Grove City High School and went on to banking school.  He was employed for many years with the Grove City National Bank and its predecessors’.  He also worked as a Landman for National Fuel Gas.             Philip was a United States Navy Veteran having served during the Korean War, where he received the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.  He was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the VFW Post 2006 in Meadville, a member of the American Legion Post 565,and the Charles N. Stafford Post III Home Association, Meadville.             Philip was also a member of the Moose Club Chapter 471 in Beach Gardens, Florida, Conneaut Lake VFD, and a former member of the Lions Club and the Boating Club in Grove City, PA.  He enjoyed fixing cars and enjoyed his time he spent in Florida.             Philip is survived by his son: Jeffrey Cory of Meadville, two daughters: Janice Cory and Joyce Cory both of Cambridge Springs, PA, three step-children: Michael Sweeney and his wife Kelly of Birmingham, Michigan, Patrick Sweeney and his wife Joanie of Gibsonia, PA, Leslie Nearhoof and her husband David of Mars, PA, 11 step-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren, his childhood friend, Donna Shaw of North Palm Beach, Florida.  He is further survived by nieces and nephews.             In addition to his parents, his former wife, Rose Marie and his wife JoAnn Marie, he was preceded in death by a step-son: James Sweeney, and two sisters: Marjorie Connell and Roberta Connell and by a brother James Cory and a half-brother: Robert Winters.             Family and friends are welcome to call on Thursday from 10 am until time of the memorial service at 12 noon at the Dickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 130 N Second Street, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316.  Phil Lowther, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Cambridge Springs will officiate.             Burial will take place with Full Military Honors conducted by VFW Post 2006, in the Our Lady Queen of the Americas Church Cemetery.
