Phoebe Louise Thompson

August 27, 1936 — January 5, 2017

            Phoebe L. Dillaman Thompson, 80, of Mentor on the Lake, Oh, formerly of Meadville, PA, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 following complications from a bypass surgery in October 2016.             She was born in Saegertown, PA on April 27, 1936, daughter of the late Oscar and Inez Dillaman.  She was preceded in death by her siblings Esther Hutchinson, Edna Cutshall, Stanley Dillaman and Myrtle Peters.             Phoebe was an amazing mom and is survived by her children son Paul Thompson and wife Wanda, son Steve Thompson and wife Starla, son Mike Thompson and wife Connie, daughter Marcy Rupert and husband Dennis, and son Greg Thompson and wife Michelle.  She also was a loving grandma to 13 grandchildren and great-grandmother of eight.  She enjoyed crocheting blankets for each of her grandchildren as well as several others.              After retiring as a school secretary at various schools in PA, she selflessly moved in with her daughter and family to help raise a very medically fragile grandson helping the family through 20 surgeries and several other challenges.  She was also very active as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, crocheting hats for needy children, Project MORE, and helping anyone who ever needed anything.  She enjoyed playing card and board games.  She also loved to travel and has explored much of the United States with her family as well as several trips via the Mentor Senior Center including trips to Toronto, Niagara Falls, Branson, MO, NYC and many others.  She also enjoyed bowling on a league in Mentor and has many friends who will miss her upbeat personality. There will be a memorial service at Mentor Plains United Methodist Church, 7271 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor, OH 44060 on Thursday, January 12 at 4:30 PM.             There will also be calling hours on Saturday, January 14 from 2 -5PM at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home followed by a funeral at 5PM.                In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Meals on Wheels-Lake County Council on Aging 8520 East Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.              Arrangements are under the care of Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St. Meadville, PA 16335.  Please sign the online guestbook at hatheway-tedesco.com
