Reverend Donald T. Engler of Meadville died on July 23rd, 2023. He was born July 4th, 1927, in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania to Winfield and Ellen Engler. He graduated from Asbury College (now Asbury University), Wilmore, Kentucky in 1952, and in 1957 received his Bachelors in Sacred Theology (S.T.P.) from Temple University School of Theology, at which time he was ordained.
He was of the United Church of Christ (UCC) denomination, serving churches in Pennsylvania. His last pastorate was in the Lake Erie Association of the UCC’s Penn West Conference, where he served as treasurer of the association for a number of years.
After retirement, he worked for six years with the Community Independence Program as a substitute driver and job coach.
He is survived by son Thomas and wife Nancy of New Mexico, three grandchildren, Scott, Nicole and Eric, and two great grandchildren, Charlotte May and Griffin Douglas. His daughter Rachel Engler Gross and husband Mark of Cambridge, England also survive him.
He is predeceased by brother Richard of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, sister Bernice of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, as well as his wife of 51 years, Margaret.
He will be laid to rest beside Margaret at Saint John’s cemetery, Union Township. Services will be private.
