Richard Cercone Jr.

Richard D. Cercone, Jr. of New Castle, PA passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 doing what he loved best, walking the woods on his property in Guys Mills, PA.

Rich was the beloved husband of 17 years to Cynthia (Edmiston) Cercone, stepfather to Mark Kosta, Amy Swanson, Erika Rubosky, and step-grandfather to Julian Swanson.  He was the dear brother to Linda Showlund, Judge David Cercone (Mary Ann), and Michael Cercone (Sharon). He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Margaret Cercone and his first wife, Carol.

After graduating from Bishop Canevin High School in Pittsburgh, PA, Rich attended Mayville State University in North Dakota where he earned a degree in education.  As an educator at Montour and Sto-Rox High School Rich also coached golf and baseball, leading the Sto-Rox Vikings to their first and only WPIAL baseball championship.  He was a member of First Baptist Church on West Maitland Road in New Castle, PA.

Following his retirement, Rich and Cindy enjoyed spending time at their “farm” in Guys Mills and home in New Castle.  Rich spent many happy years pursuing his passions; hunting, fishing and golf as well as playing with his beloved dogs, Chloe and Sunny.

In keeping with Rich’s wishes, there will be no visitation.  A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
