Richard Maines

Richard “Dick” Maines, age 82, of Meadville, PA passed away at home on May 1, 2024.  He was born on November 18, 1941 in Meadville, PA to the late Jess and Viola (Smith) Maines.  He married Jill Menold.  She preceded him in death on July 21, 2022.

Dick graduated from Randolph High School.  Following high school he joined the US Army and served overseas with the Army Security Agency.  He returned to the US after he fulfilled his tour with National Security.  He was then hired out on the Erie Lackawana Conrail as a train man and enjoyed the outside work until he was injured on the job in an accident.  Following his injury, he met his wife, Jill.  He loved her red hair and her beautiful smile and her willingness to and love of travel.    They enjoyed many years of beach vacations and cruises together.

Dick attended North Wayland Baptist Church.  He was a lifetime member of VFW Post #2006, Saegertown American Legion, Meadville Elks Lodge and the Eagles club.  In addition to traveling with his wife, he also enjoyed riding his trike and he loved his dog, Maggie.

He is survived by his niece, Amy Jones and her husband, Timothy; his nephew, Jeff Menold and his wife, Jolene; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Sherry Menold; his niece, Shari Lybrook; nephews, Jim and Rick Andrews; several great nieces and nephews and his dear friends, Brian Ridgeway and Bruce Ridgeway.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Andrews.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday May 5, 2024 from 2-4 pm at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335.  Funeral service will take place at 4 pm with Pastor Brian Hasenkopf and Reverend Amy Jones officiating.  Full military honors will be provided by VFW Post #2006.

Dick will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at Kiser Hill Cemetery.
