Sondra Mika, 85, of Saegertown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026, surrounded by her family. Born November 5, 1940, in Saegertown, Pennsylvania, to Martha Smallenberger and Richard Hannold. Sondra attended Saegertown High School. Sondra was married to Chester Mika for over 20 years and enjoyed time with family and friends.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. She remained an active and dedicated member of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church for over 75 years. She loved to sing whether it be in the Church Choir, numerous Christmas Cantata’s or joyfully around her own kitchen.
Sondra’s heart for service was evident in all she did. She led the Meadville chapter of Parents Without Partners as its president and established the Women Helping Women support group at her church. She worked as a nurse’s aide and in the Penncrest school system working with children in many departments for over 30 years offering steady care, encouragement, and a positive presence in their lives. She worked at Thurston House a community outreach program, touching the lives of numerous teen parents and special needs individuals with her compassion and guidance.
In her childhood and young adulthood, she enjoyed girl scouts, camping and archery. She then enjoyed gardening, living in the country, and caring for her lovable labradors. She loved her family, and everyone knew that Moxie, her sweet fur‑baby kitty, was truly the queen of the house.
She is survived by her children Bryan Fitch and his wife Diane (Nelson) of Kingsville MD; Jennifer Getty (Fitch) and her husband Ken Getty of York PA. She is survived by her step-children Judy Valentine; Peggy and Tom Goodhue; Kathy and Rob Robbins, and Geoffery Mika. She is also survived by her grandchildren Elizabeth Fitch, Erica Fitch, Andrew Fitch, and Tyler Herrington; and her great grandchildren Matthew and Jackson Herrington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband’s Chester Mika and Theodore Fitch.
She will be deeply missed and will forever hold a gentle place in the hearts of all that knew her.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be scheduled later in the summer and will be posted here.
