Susan Christine (Wood) Hindle, affectionately known as Susie, passed away on June 12, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on May 28, 1952, Susie lived a life filled with creativity, love for family, devotion to animals, and an appreciation for the beauty found in everyday life.
Throughout her life, Susie shared her artistic talents in many ways. She studied floral design in Boston and worked at Loeffler’s Flower Shop. She also worked at Past Times Fine Art and Framing Gallery in Meadville and later worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in Crawford County until her retirement.
Susie had a gift for making things beautiful. Through floral design, painting, decorating, gardening, and cooking, she brought creativity and care to everything she did. She was an excellent cook whose kitchen was often a gathering place for family and friends.
Animals held a special place in her heart. Over the years, she opened her home to many dogs and cats, along with the occasional rooster, rabbit, or goat. Any animal fortunate enough to cross her path was sure to find a home, a meal, and plenty of affection.
She enjoyed the music of James Taylor, Carly Simon, Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Rod Stewart.
She especially loved her home on French Creek, where she found joy in every season—winter, spring, summer, and fall. Some of her happiest moments were spent there with her husband, Scott, enjoying the beauty of French Creek, the changing seasons, and the peacefulness of the place they loved.
Susie was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Scott E. Hindle; her mother, Georgene C. (Gaub) Wood; her father, Harold E. Wood; her stepmother, Shirley M. Wood; and her sister, Kath Ann Walker.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer C. Graham of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, and her son, Jacob A. Hindle of Meadville, Pennsylvania; daughter-in-law Sharon Hindle; grandchildren Jonas Pavetti, Aiden Pavetti, Emily Hindle, and Chloe Hindle and Chloe’s wife, Cynthia; her brother, Timothy P. Wood and his wife, Kimberly Sue Wood, of Saegertown, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law Paul O. Walker of Warren, Pennsylvania; brother-in-law Gregory Hindle and his wife, Patricia Hindle, of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives were touched by her kindness, creativity, and love.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses, aides, and staff of the
Crawford Care Center for the love, compassion, and exceptional care they provided to Susie during the last year of her life.
In accordance with Susie’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Susie’s name to the Crawford County Humane Society, reflecting her lifelong love and compassion for animals.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335.
