Thomas A. Smouse

Tom Smouse, 82, passed on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, under hospice care at his home in Conneaut Lake as was his wish.              He was born in West Newton, PA, to parents Harry T. and Mary Abert Kissinger Smouse. Tom was married to his high school sweetheart, Janet Nyahay, for 61 years.              At his retirement, Tom was Design Supervisor for General Motors at the Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac Group in McKeesport, PA, where he was employed for 35 years.  After retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife and wintering at their home in Sarasota, FL, where he made many friends while pursuing his hobbies of woodworking, horseshoes, and golf.  He was a professional archer and hunted all types of game both with bow and arrow and rifle.  He was an avid fisherman and fished with family and friends wherever there was water.  He also participated in two local golf leagues.               Tom led by example to three generations of family, filling in the gaps. His advice and expertise were appreciated by family and friends, young and old.              He was preceded in death by his son, Ted Smouse of Linesville, PA, and his brother, Major William C. Kissinger of Goochland, VA.              Surviving are his wife, Janet; sister, Ruth (Susie) Smouse of West Newton, PA; and two children--Donna Smouse of Bellefonte, PA, and Tom (T.A.R.S.) Smouse of Marietta, GA.  Also surviving are three grand-daughters and their families--Abby Smith and Mitchell Wasson of Centre Hall, PA, and great-grandson, Wyatt; Meghann and Jason Hess of Pittsburgh, PA, and great-granddaughter, Mae;  and Rebecca Moreau of Lemont, PA.              Cremation will be performed by Hathaway-Tedesco Funeral Home & Crematory in Meadville, PA.  There will be no calling hours.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.             Please sign Tom’s online obituary at hatheway-tedesco.com
