Vernon Leroy Kesler

November 27, 1929 — August 1, 2014

Vernon LeRoy Kesler, of Conneaut Lake, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 1, 2014, at his residence. Vernon was born a twin, November27, 1929, to Everett Earl Kesler and Lottie A. Wingrove Plyler Kesler in Smicksburg, PA. Vernon and his twin sister, Vernie Louise, developed whooping cough shortly after birth and Vernie passed away in January, 1930. He married Joan Bain Milne in New Brighton, PA on July 28, 1950. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1995. At a very young age Vernon sold seeds to buy his first Bible. He worked as a teenager at Oakland Beach Hotel, as a bellhop. In his early 20's he worked, in the plumbing business, for his father-in-law, John Milne. Vern worked at Ohio Rubber Co., Conneautville, PA from his late twenties until his retirement in 1981 working his way up from presses, to the shipping department and then freight supervisor. Vernon was a wonderful husband, taking care of his wife, Joan, at home, until she passed away. He was an amazing father and loving grandfather. He was so very proud of his grandson when he became a United States Marine on May 9, 2014 and so very happy he was able to fly to South Carolina, at that time, for graduation events. Vernon was a 1948 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School. Vern was a member of High Street Community Church for almost 57 years. He enjoyed golfing and at age 51 scored a Hole-in-One at Firestone Country Club in Akron, OH. He always had a garden even after having his right leg amputated in l986 and continued until 2014. When you turned the ignition on in his car you always knew you were going to hear Glenn Miller on the CD player. As grandpa he kept young by going to his grandson's Little League, high school football, and basketball games. He especially liked to hear Scott play the piano. He attended all of Scott's recitals and public appearances. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Kesler, a grandson, Scott Kesler, (both of whom lived with him in Conneaut Lake since 2000), a sister-in-law, Marian Kesler Grieser of Conneaut Lake, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jean (Robert) Cifelli of Trenton, New Jersey, a special nephew, Jack Plyler and his wife, Leanne, of Geneva, Ohio and many other nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his loving cocker spaniel, Holly. In addition to his loving wife, Joan, Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Kesler, a step-brother, Homer Plyler and three step-sisters, Vivian Brown, Golda Black and Florence Feltenberger. Visiting hours are Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 2:00PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Dickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N Second Street, Conneuat Lake, PA. A Celebration of His Life will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Dickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N Second Street, Conneaut Lake, PA, with Rev. William Rogers, of High Street Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Conneaut Lake Samaritans, P.O. Box 110, Conneaut Lake, Pa 16316 or to the Hospice of Crawford County, 454 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Dickson Funeral Home & Crematory, Rocco R. Tedesco III, Supervisor, 130 N Second Street, Conneaut Lake, PA 16316
