Walter Eckert

November 25, 1957 — November 21, 2022

Walter (Walt) Joseph Eckert of Meadville passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 21, 2022, at the age of 64 after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Walt was born on November 25, 1957, in St. Marys, PA to Michael Raymond Eckert and Carol (Gay) Eckert.

Walt attended Maplewood school and enjoyed working on farms in his youth, thus earning the nickname “Farmer”.

Walt was a hardworking, loving man who was a devoted husband and father. Walt loved to tinker on anything with an engine, but especially loved muscle cars. One of the highlights of his life was passing on his love of cars to his son and teaching him everything he knew to “Go faster”.

Walt enjoyed spending time with his family, which included his two beloved dogs, Tiki and Cayman. He was an understanding and loving husband, son, brother, uncle, father, and friend and would help anyone in need without expecting anything in return. He spent his career working for local businesses in the surrounding area, such as Aardvark, Hafer’s Trucking, Vernon Towing, and Estes for the last 22 years until he retired in 2020.

He is survived by his son, Brandon Eckert of Pittsburgh, his father Michael Raymond Eckert of Saegertown; three brothers – Mike (Butch), Rick, and Charlie; and three sisters – Grace, Sandi, and Julie.

Walt was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Debbie (Johnston) Eckert of Meadville, his stepmother, Catharine (Currie) Eckert of Saegertown, his brother Robert (Rob) Eckert of Meadville, his sister Joann Roboski of Roulette, PA, his brother, Lloyd Eckert of Corry, and mother Carol Eckert of Johnsonburg, PA.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335.
