Walter D. Niwa

Walter Daniel Niwa, age 77, of Meadville, PA passed away on Sunday January 15, 2023 at home with his family by his side.  He was born on July 4, 1945 in Meadville, PA to the late Walter J. and Elizabeth (Levinsky) Niwa.  He married Mary Haas on January 3, 1976.  She survives.

Walter attended Meadville area schools.  He worked most of his life on his family’s dairy farm.  He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ.

Walter loved growing fruits and vegetables in his garden.  He also loved making maple syrup and homemade raspberry wine.    Walter enjoyed fishing and he was very interested in war history.  He traveled to Gettysburg and Virginia on history trips.  He also enjoyed visiting train museums.  Walter also loved watching the Buffalo Bills and the Green Bay Packers play football.

In addition to his loving wife, Mary of 47 years he is survived by his son, Daniel J. Niwa and his wife, Tanya of Greenville, PA; his grandson, Zach Copeland and his wife, Morgan  and their son, Zander of Greenville, PA  and several other grandchildren and his brother, Stanley Niwa and his wife, Deborah of Meadville, PA.

Walter was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Bly.

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday January 18, 2023 from 1-3 p.m. at Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home and Crematory, 614 Baldwin St., Meadville, PA 16335.   Funeral service will take place 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Tim Solomon officiating.
