William George

After a lengthy illness, William T. George (Bill) passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Wesbury Nursing Home in Meadville, PA at the age of 83.

Bill was born September 4, 1936 to William (Bill) George and Elizabeth (Betty) Schroeder George of New Lebanon, PA.  Growing up in New Lebanon, he was a 1954 graduate of Sandy Lake High School.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Shippensburg State College.  While there, he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity (Teke.)

After college, Bill taught high school English/Public Speaking.  While teaching, he served as President of the Perry County Teacher’s Association.  He served as State Travel Editor of the PA Dept. of Commerce.  He left teaching to move to Philadelphia to pursue a career in Advertising and Public Relations with Lippincott Publishing Co., American College/American Society of Charter Life Insurance Underwriters.  He then moved to New York City to further pursue his career with Farm Journal and Smith Kline.  After leaving the advertising world, Bill started a cleaning business in New York City from which he retired in 2010 to move back to Meadville, PA to be closer to family.

Bill had many interests throughout his life.  He enjoyed traveling throughout England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Holland and Costa Rica.  Investigating and documenting his family’s lineage and anything to do with the arts were a couple of his passions.  He was an avid collector of music and loved movies and stage productions.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Betty George; his brother, Robert George; his sister, Marlene Tenon and his nephew, Jeffrey George.

He is survived by a sister, Dorothy George Hedglin; brother-in-law, Fritz Hedglin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill will be remembered with a private family celebration of life.
